Cathy Hay founded Hay Design in 2004 after a career with Taylor Irving & Associates, Transport Canada, and Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC).  Cathy started Hay Design as a reflection of her greatest passion; working with people, determining their needs and creating amazing spaces for them.

Cathy’s ability to manage teams and coordinate project details has earned Hay Design a reputation for going the extra mile to exceed client expectations, while completing projects on time and on budget. She’s an industry leader at determining the optimal space and functional requirements her clients need and for determining proximity requirements between functional groups. Cathy’s award winning designs gives her clients beautiful, inspiring spaces that meet their operational needs, enabling the user to perform at their best.

Cathy has earned certificates and awards on many of her projects including: Certificate of Appreciation from Transport Canada Airports, Certificate of Appreciation for the Regional Office Renovation, Dartmouth, N.S., and Merit Award for her “exceptional and distinguished contribution to the effectiveness and efficiency of the Public Service.” Cathy also won “People’s Choice Award” for her team’s design in the national Archetype for The Living City: Sustainable House Competition.

Cathy’s passion for people and their spaces led to the opening of Hay Design Furnishings + Décor locations in Westport and Perth Ontario, and her online store Hay Design Furnishings & Décor offers beautiful and unique furnishings and décor from around North America.

Cathy is also passionate about her community. She can be found raising funds and donating time for many local and international organizations, like Habitat for Humanity and Big Brothers Big Sisters. She is a team leader for Habitat for Humanity Global Village, and has led teams to Honduras, Nicaragua, and Whitehorse on building projects.

Cathy is a member of ARIDO, IDC, and is a Registered Interior Designer. She is a PMP (Project Manager Professional) and a LEED accredited professional. Cathy is a member of the International Facility Management Association and the Building Owners and Managers Association of Ottawa (BOMA).
